The Harvest Kitchen and E.L.Y.V. serve up joy at Christmas

Joy is reflected on their faces as these Harvest Kitchen volunteers share a light-hearted photo moment calling out "Reindeer Antlers" for the camera. Left to right: Nicole H., Maddison R., Jessica R., Theresa H., and Bonnie Q.

Snow storms did not stop the Harvest Kitchen or their guest choir, the Elliot Lake Young Voices, from serving up a lot of joy for Christmas at the Elliot Lake Legion today. The event was called a Christmas Lunch, but "lunch" was just an expression. It was a true dinner - turkey with all the trimmings followed by beautiful desserts.

For the Harvest Kitchen, the spirit of sharing is a year-round celebration.

The Harvest Kitchen is an initiative to provide free or ‘pay what you can’ meals to our community. It came to be through conversations that started at the homelessness challenge on the old mall site in Elliot Lake this past summer.

The kitchen is open three days a week. On average, 138 meals are served each open day. But it's not only the food that's important. A social network has evolved. People met, and mutually caring friendships began.

The Elliot Lake Young Voices Choir (ELYV) was launched this year by local teachers Monsieur and Madame Frolick. Monsieur Frolick teaches at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School, and Madame Frolick teaches at Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion.

The youth choir welcomes all local youth aged 8 to 18 from any school. Following the past few difficult years with youth activities curtailed due to covid, this is a beautiful and needed opportunity for our youth.

Do you have an interested youth? Please message the Frolicks through their Facebook page Elliot Lake Young Voices ELYV or email elliotlakeyoungvoices@gmail.com

Merry Christmas to all from the Harvest Kitchen and Elliot Lake Young Voices Choir.
