New buses for Elliot Lake!

Council approved 3 new buses at the February 27th meeting

This comes as great news for not just riders and drivers but for our entire community. New buses create improved air quality in a community and that means greater health benefits for the people who live here. That can mean fewer cases of respiratory ailments such as asthma. People are also more prone to get out and exercise when the air quality is better.

One thing that does have me scratching my head though is an item left over from January 2021 when Elliot Lake's Director of Public Works Daryl Halloch, posted information on social media about the introduction of new technology on the Elliot Lake Transit system. This technology would include an App similar to “Where’s my bus?” There was also supposed to be an audio call out system installed with signs on each bus letting riders know what the next stop will be.

A federal and a provincial grant that would equal $937,500 would fund this. This has not happened as far as I know, and I do not know what happened with the funds. App or no app I’m thrilled we are getting 3 new buses.

A huge thank you to City staff for recommending the new buses and to our Council for supporting this! Well done!
