EL: Your future begins at 4:00 pm today

A Vision and Strategic Plan is essential for the decisions of local government to benefit all of us. Not everyone needs this, but it's crucial for probably 11,000 of the 11,372 of us. (Yes, the little guy citizens.)

The Vision is the statement of our destination. The more specific the description, the better our chance of arriving somewhere we want to be. The Strategic Plan is the roadmap of how we get there. Missing from the equation so far, are Values. What are the values that will help us determine how we will work together and how we will choose our destination? I'll remain optimistic and note that at this early stage, this missing piece might be something we are developing together.

The little guy citizens have been trying to bring this pot to the front of the stove for quite a while. Last fall, during the campaign period, the online and on-the-ground group, C.A.U.S.E Elliot Lake hosted events for the municipal candidates. Vision was one of the featured questions. Another project, EL Vision 2022  (by the author) invited the candidates to share a written description of their vision. So, the little guy citizens have certainly been trying to help this critically important piece. It’s great to see this on the open agenda and not in camera.

The curtain goes up at 4:00 pm today. I wish our council well as they unveil the process.

It’s our future and we need a future that serves all the citizens of Elliot Lake.
